CRJS472IP5 - Research Paper Example l in the world containing information about more than 70 million criminals along with over 34 million civil prints (The Federal Bureau of Investigation, 2010). This paper discusses the reasons as why the integrated automated fingerprint information system works so well and the measures that are necessary to ensure the effectiveness of new and emerging biometric databases. The Integrated automated fingerprint information system features the fundamental practices for fingerprint biometrics including maximizing the quality of a fingerprint scan, ensuring liveness detection to prevent circumvention, measuring system performance and conducting scenario testing. The quality of the fingerprint scan is a vital aspect of the fingerprint biometric system design and is determined by the scanner resolution, scanner measurement area, scanner measurement technology, and the human and environmental factors. High quality fingerprint scans yield large numbers of biometric features. Fingerprint copies may be used in attempts to bypass the biometric system. The Federal bureau of Investigation prevents security bypasses by maintaining liveness detection in the integrated automated fingerprint information system. Liveness detection also referred to as copy protection ensures that copies of authorized user fingerprints are not used in the biometric system. Fingerprint copies include activated latent prints, two-dimensional and three-dimensional copies. The automated fingerprint information system features scanners with a built-in ability to detect latent, two-dimensional and three-dimensional copies. The Integrated automated fingerprint information system architecture complies with the Federal Bureau of Investigation architecture. And also regular reviews are conducted to ensure it complies with standards and guidance. The regular reviews ensure that the integrated automated fingerprint information system works with exceptional performance. The system also features service-oriented

Eurozone Debt Crisis - What are your predictions on how this crisis Essay
Eurozone Debt Crisis - What are your predictions on how this crisis will develop in the second half of 2011 and what impact will - Essay Example Soon after this optimistic representation of the future global economy, Greece made headlines, where the investors started asking if it would be ever possible for the country to ââ¬Å"pay off the ?259 billion in government debt it currently owesââ¬â¢ (Khan, ibid). Soon Ireland and Portugal followed suit, while predictions show bad signs for Spain and Italy (Lucas, Find Safe European Stocks out of Unsafe Europe , April 2011). Thus, we find that Euro has taken a deep battering from the start of the new decade, with widespread fears that this economic crises may lead to the break-up of the Eurozone. Discussion In recent news published, we find that it presents gloomy figures, ââ¬Å"The Eurozone crisis has gone from bad to worse as debt contagion threatens to engulf Italy. With analysts predicting that Britain could lose as much as ?43 billion should the Italian economy fold, Chancellor George Osborne called on his Eurozone colleagues to take "decisive action" before the situation g ets any worse. He also warned that Britain was "not immune" from the crisisâ⬠(Clarkson, Q&A: How will the latest eurozone crisis affect the UK? 2011). Thus, we find that the economic recovery has again hit a critical roadblock, where the economist Peter Spencer on 18th July 2011 stated, "The risks to the world economy and the Eurozone are plain to see, starting with the Greek default, threatening a domino effect on Portugal and Ireland, followed perhaps by Spain and Italy"(cited in, skynewsHD, July 2011). In review by the Ernst & Young group, we find that the predictions are not very optimistic for the second half of the year. In this report, it is stated that the economic forecasts show every indication of an increasing ââ¬Å"EU sovereign debt crisisâ⬠(Ernst & Young Eurozone Forecast, 2011, 4). The review also shows that it is almost impossible to avoid the non-payment of the debt incurred by the Greece government. Similarly it would be also impossible to frame an econ omic restructuring, and in probability the country would require another bailout loan. However the review further adds that ââ¬Å"a restructuring nor a bailout are in themselves likely to provide lasting solutions and restructuring would almost certainly carry in its wake the necessity of similar exercises for Ireland and Portugal. An additional uncertainty is whether debt restructuring comes via an orderly or disorderly process. If it is the latter, the risk of contagion to other countries increases and the Eurozoneââ¬â¢s reasonably healthy growth prospects for 2011 and 2012 are likely to be extinguished. In fact, the economy would go backwardâ⬠(ibid). Fig 1: The table below shows GDP growth rates for the European Union and select individual countries. Here we find that the 2011 and 2012 growth predictions vary from 4-5% for countries like Turkey and Poland, and an average of 1-2% for the PIIGS countries at the other end (Source: Lucas, 2011). The graph shows a picture wh ere we find that majority of the countries perform badly (economically) in 2011, with indications of a slightly better show in

Fire Protection Systems Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words
Fire Protection Systems - Research Paper Example Automatic activation can also occur in several forms, designed to a number of physical changes associated with fire. Such devices include heat detectors, smoke detectors, flame detectors, fire gas detectors and water flow detectors. Modern innovation can use cameras and computers to analyze the visual signs of fire and movement in applications inappropriate for or hostile to other detection methods (Greenman, 2003). Notifications from fire alarms to alert the occupants of the need to evacuate premises or take appropriate actions due to fire emergencies can be in audible, visible, tactile, textual or even olfactory (odorized) forms. Emergency signals are automatically intended to be distinct and understandable in order top avoid confusion with other signals. The Temporal Code 3 which chimes three times at one-second intervals, stops for one second the repeats is the most common audible in the modern fire alarm system. Other methods of audio alerts include audible textual appliances, continuous and voice evaluation. In some fire alarm systems especially in high-rise buildings, arenas and other large facilities such as hospitals where total evacuation is difficult to achieve, emergency voice alarm communication systems (EVACS) are used. This voice based system allows personnel to orderly evacuate and notify occupants in such crowded buildings. Strategically too, especially in high-rise buildings, depending on exact location of fire, different evaluation messages may be played on each floor to facilitate orderly evacuation and saving of lives (Jones, 2009). New codes and standards have enabled alarm system manufacturers to expand their systems voice evacuation capabilities to support trending requirements for mass notifications including possibility of multiple types of emergency messaging. To serve those with disabilities too, emergency communication systems have visible notification along with audio. Mass notification systems

Accepted Accounting Principles related to Health Care Essay - 1
Accepted Accounting Principles related to Health Care - Essay Example Inother words, it separates the business from its owners and treats it as an economic unit. Only assets, liabilities, and owners equity related to the group or organization are on one financial statement. If there are sub entities, the financial records of these entities are maintained separately. The second principle is the going - concern concept which is a presumption that the group or organization will be running in the future and will not be liquidated in the next 12 months. It is a very concept in case of healthcare business because hospitals, nursing homes, etc. which do not intend to stay in business the net realizable value of the asset may be not ascertained and could be sold at a much higher price than they worth at the moment of sale. The third principle is the matching principle which is a combination of cash accounting and accrual accounting. The matching principle and cash accounting states that revenue or expenses are recognized only when the organization receives cash or pays cash. For example, medical equipments are recognized in the books of accounts only when the cash is paid out in entirety. The problem therefore is, all transactions that are not done on a cash basis and not done in the same accounting year are not recognized which gives a deceptive picture of what actually occurred a respective accounting year. On the other hand, when accrual accounting is done this gives the actual as to what occurred in that year. An example of this is if an organization provides care for a patient but does not receive reimbursement until the following year but the funds will be documented on the year the patient was cared for. The fourth principle is known as the historical cost principle and states that the cost of a resource is what the organization pays to receive the economic need. Historical cost does not reflect the current market valuation of the asset. Therefore the problem with the cost principle for example is if a hospital pays twenty

Context of professional practice Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 4000 words
Context of professional practice - Essay Example Part One Legal principles basically refer to rules or standards of behaviour. These principles also refer to the supporting rationale for certain standards in the practice, including principles referring to their allowance or prohibition in the healthcare profession. The principles of ethical practice refer to the code of ethics for the healthcare professionals, clarifying specific elements of the practice including the ethical principles which emerge from or react to such specific elements. These principles serve as goals in managing the public health institutions (Public Health Leadership Society, 2002). Legal principles and principles of professional ethical practice refer to different aspects of the nursing practice (Royal College of Nursing, 2013). The legal principles refer to the legally mandated principles of healthcare while the principles of professional ethical practice are based on the standards of ethics which may not necessarily be mandated by legal provisions, but are still part of the minimum requisites of medical and nursing care (Dimond, 2008). Within the nursing practice, the legal principles refer to the principles laid out by the Royal College of Nursing in partnership with the Department of Health and Nursing and Midwifery Council. The ethical principles include the four basic health ethical requirements: self-determination/autonomy, beneficence, non-maleficence, and justice (McElroy, 2011). These four principles may not be specifically included as legally mandated principles in the nursing practice, but violations of these ethical requirements are still punishable by the law and by the professional councils (Thompson, et.al., 2006). In applying legal principles and principles of professional codes of practice, I discovered that making judgments and decisions during the practice must be applied as independent and non-mechanistic processes. My judgment as a clinical practitioner is required under the context of complying with the minimum le gal and professional codes of the practice. I cannot follow one and ignore the other because these principles help provide essential support for the effective management of patient conditions (Fry and Johnstone, 2008). Issues of responsibility and accountability in delegating activities to others may relate to problems on improper delegation (Leathard, 2003). Where certain functions are delegated, all the essential elements of proper delegation must be complied with, including the importance of delegating the task to a person who is trained and capable of expertly carrying out the assigned task (Gillen and Graffin, 2010). Accountability may still emerge in these cases where the delegator has not secured the necessary means to ensure that the task delegated is being properly carried out by a competent individual. This would include the responsibility of following-up the delegatee, and supervising his or her work (Gillen and Graffin, 2010). Delegating the task to oneself must also com ply with the same standards of the practice, including competence. Where competence cannot be ensured, the task must not be delegated to oneself. The aspect of the nursing practice which shall be subject of this reflection is the nursing care for diabetic patients. During my care for a diabetic patient, I discovered that
The Black and Decker Corporation Case Study Essay
The Black and Decker Corporation Case Study - Essay Example Case Study Synopsis A. Company Overview; Dissecting the Case The Black & Decker Corporation is an American firm that manufactures and markets power tools, power accessories, fastening systems, products for home improvements, and hardware. It manufactures its products in eleven countries spread worldwide, and markets those in a hundred plus countries. Its biggest markets are the United States, which accounted for 55 percent of all revenues in 2008, and Europe, for 25 percent in the same year. 2008 revenues were US 6.086 billion dollars, while gross margins were 32.8 percent for that year. By product group contribution, power tools contributed 73 percent of all revenues in 2008, at US 4.3 billion dollars, followed by hardware and products for the improvement of the home, at US 900 million dollars, making up 15 percent of all revenues. The balance was made up for by revenues from fastening systems, which was the smallest product group by revenue for that year, accounting for 12 percent of all sales, valued at US 700 million dollars (Black and Decker, n.d., pp. 1-14). By way of a look forward, by 2012 the Black & Decker Corporation had ceased to be an independent firm, having been bought out by Stanley Works in 2010, so that the merged entity had come to be known as Stanley Black & Decker Inc.(Google Finance, 2012; Stanley Black & Decker Inc., 2012; Black and Decker, n.d.; Reuters, 2012 (b)). ... The hypothesis is that the traditional market strengths of the original Black & Decker Company had something to do with this share price appreciation(Reuters, 2012; Google Finance, 2012; Reuters, 2012 (b)): Image Source: Google Finance, 2012 B. Business Groups and Market Segments Three product groups serve as the organizing principle of the organization. These product groups are, as already mentioned earlier, power tools, product for home improvement and hardware, and fastening systems. Of the three, as has been noted earlier, power tools make up the bulk of the revenues (73 percent), followed by home improvement at 15 percent, and fastening systems at 12 percent of all revenues. Absolute profits rankings are the same, with power tools contributing the most to profits, followed in the same order by the two other product groups (Black & Decker, n.d., pp. 1-14). Three different market segments for the power tools product group, the largest product group, have differing characteristics, defined along customer type. As discussed earlier, these are industrial users, general consumers, and professionals. Of the three, the company has had success with industrial users and general consumers, while as noted earlier, prior to the launch of the DeWalt brand, the corporation had suffered anemic following among professionals, owing to the market perception that the company's products were inferior (Black & Decker, n.d., pp 3-5). Moreover, the three market segments also differ in some other profound ways. Industrial users are the most demanding, requiring that products show resistance to wear and resilience, even as the rewards include long-lasting relationships with buyers, and large and frequent orders. Professionals, using the products as essential trade tools,

The project gives real life understanding of Online Banking System and activities performed by various roles in the supply chain. Scope of the Project This Project investigates the entry threshold for providing a new transaction service channel via the real options approach, where the entry threshold is established by using an Internet banking system designed for the use of normal users(individuals), Industrialists, Entrepreneurs, Educational Institutions(Financial sections), Organizations and Academicians under transaction rate uncertainty. Customer must have a valid User Id and password to login to the system If a wrong password is given thrice in succession, that account will be locked and the customer will not be able to use it. When an invalid password is entered a warning is given to the user that his account is going to get locked. After the valid user logs in he is shown the list of accounts he has with the bank. On selecting the desired account he is taken to a page which shows the present balance in that particular account number. User can request for the details of the last ââ¬Ënââ¬â¢ number of transactions that he has performed. A report can also be taken of this. User can make a funds transfer to another account in the same bank. User is provided with a transaction password which is different from the login password. User can transfer funds from his account to any other account with this bank.
